Transitioning a racecourse into a neighbourhood
Moonee Valley Racecourse has partnered with Hostplus and Hamton to transform nine hectares of underutilised land around the racecourse into an urban neighbourhood.
The Space Agency tailored an Activation Strategy and Place Transition Plan to guide the evolution of The Moonee Valley Racecourse into a world-class neighbourhood with food, hospitality, entertainment experiences, residential homes, workspaces, community facilities and public open spaces. From day one, Minimum Viable Places constructed in six key locations will minimise disruption and provide interim amenity to new residents, locals and constructions workers.
The Space Agency will continue to work long-term on this thirteen-year project; activating and managing semi-permanent, programmable event and public spaces; prototyping future ideas and innovations; supporting marketing campaigns; encouraging residential sales; engaging future commercial operators; and securing early commitments in the retail and hospitality precincts.
